According to the recent study, it is stating that the pivotal role of haematology leukaemia ; and blood and marrow transplantation in modern adult and paediatric medicine. This study is also highlighting on the various conditioning regimens using for stem cell transplantation; including types of stem cell transplantation, its harvesting process and various steps involving in the transplant process.

As the BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital; National Thalassemia Centre organise CME conference stating that; it was a great experience to address an inquisitive crowd and impart the knowledge to the medical fraternity at Sri Lanka regarding the advantage of using BMT and stem cell transplant. Unfortunately, in comparison to the rising cases of various blood disorders like thalassemia, leukaemia etc in Sri Lanka, there are very few physicians who can perform BMT procedures and treat the disease.

Blood disorders like leukaemia

But the main objective of the CME conference was to address the medical fraternity in Sri Lanka; to be better equipping and become an expert in conducting BMT procedures. Leukaemia is the general name giving to a group of cancers; that develop in the bone marrow. Leukaemia originates in developing blood cells that have undergoing a malignant change.

This conference is conducting once in every quarter; where all the doctors and medical experts from all over Sri Lanka participate and get training from various healthcare experts. Most cases of leukaemia originate in developing white cells. In a small number of cases leukaemia develops in other blood-forming cells, for example in developing red cells or developing platelets. Leukaemia can also be either myeloid or lymphocytic.

Medical fraternity in Sri Lanka

The main objective of the CME conference was to address; the medical fraternity in Sri Lanka to be better equipping and become an expert in conducting BMT procedures. This conference is conducting once in every quarter; where all the doctors and medical experts from all over Sri Lanka participate and get trained from various healthcare experts.

However, to reduce the global burden of blood disorders; but it is important to collaborate and share knowledge worldwide. But glad we got this opportunity to join hands with National Thalassemia Center, Sri Lanka; who have provided with a platform to share our experience; and expertise on BMT and stem cells transplant, with our fellow healthcare experts in Sri Lanka. But the collaboration will allow further expansion of BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital’s international reach out; and awareness programs for patients and health-care professionals.
