St. Lucia Hospital Protest On Health Care Issues

There is no doubt that as a nation we are faced with numerous challenges in the health system. When in government the Saint Lucia Labour Party experienced first-hand the situation and took positive steps to improve health care. In 2002, we commenced and later completed the National Wellness Centre to ensure more humane treatment for our mentally ill citizens.

In 2002 a decision was taken to construct a new Hospital. After a review of existing plans to rehabilitate Victoria Hospital built in 1887. Construction of the new a national hospital (OKEU) commenced in 2005.

Hospital Stay Serves Large Numbers Of Cardiac Patients

When Medicare in 2011 agreed to pay for a revolutionary procedure to replace leaky heart valves by snaking a synthetic replacement up through blood vessels, the goal was to offer relief to the tens of thousands of patients too frail to endure open-heart surgery, the gold standard.

To help ensure good results, federal officials limited Medicare payment only to hospitals that serve large numbers of cardiac patients. The strategy worked. In the past seven years, more than 135,000 mostly elderly patients have undergone transcatheter aortic valve replacement, known as TAVR. And TAVR's in-hospital mortality rate has dropped by two-thirds, to 1.5%.

UK Hospitals And Ambulance Services Has Warned For Drugs Post

A study determined that U.K. hospitals and ambulance services have warned that its members may run out of drugs if Britain leaves the European Union without an agreement on future relations. According to US News and World Report, the study showed that the third consecutive year, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, claimed the number one spot in the annual honor roll of best hospitals. The study was published by US News and World Report. The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio holds the number two spot (again this year) in the annual honor roll, which highlights hospitals delivering "exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care."
