High BMI and Blood Pressure Linked to Heavy Heart

The modifiable risk factors including high blood pressure and being overweight causes the direct damage on the heart, according to the new study published in the journal PLoS ONE. The research team from the University of Oxford analyzed the hearts of 4,561 people from the UK Biobank database, to study the structure and functioning by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging technique. The research was funded by The British Heart Foundation.

Backup Pacemaker Mechanisms to Prevent Heart Failure

A research published in Science Translational Medicine reveals that heart failure associated with arrhythmias can be prevented by two mechanisms. Sino-atrial node (SAN) located in the human heart acts as the body’s natural pacemaker. Raul Weiss, a cardiologist and researcher at Ohio State University, said that this is the gateway to describe that SAN depression could occur before cardiac arrest and allows the doctor to identify the complication before massive cardiac arrest.
