Sepsis Patients Benefit from Prolonged Beta-lactam Infusion

A new study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, revealed that sepsis patients who receive prolonged antipseudomonal beta-lactam infusion are at lower risk of mortality. The infusion, specifically in the ICU settings could be highly effective with minimum side effects. A previous meta-analysis published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases indicated the association of extended infusion and lower mortality, said Dr. Konstantinos Z. Vardakas from Alfa Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Athens.

Genetic Investigation Reveals Insights on Candidiasis

A new study has shown that fungal yeast infections (candidiasis) have analyzed from around the world. They revealed secrets about the microbe reproduction and caused disease. Researchers studied the genetic code of 33 separate strains of the yeast Candida glabrata, which is the second most common cause of candidiasis.
