Chagas Disease, a Great Threat to the Canadians

Chagas disease also known as the "Kissing Bug" disease was found to affect the major population of Canada. The natives of specific Central and South American nations and their offspring were at risk of contracting Chagas disease. The researchers said that the disease should be diagnosed and prevented at the earliest as there were transmissions from mother to unborn child, and many lived with potentially undetected infection . The study findings are published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ).

Transfusion dependence beneficial to the leukemia patients

A study was presented at the 59th American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Atlanta. The researchers found that for patients with advanced leukemia, access to high-quality end-of-life care appears to be reduced in those dependent on blood transfusions. The study associates this reduced access and consequent diminished use of hospice services with a reduced quality of end-of-life care for these patients.
