IL-4 Receptor Protein Active in Anaphylaxis is a Promising Target for Therapy

Prospects for inhibiting the most dangerous symptoms of allergic reactions may be brighter with the publication of a new study that identifies a possible target for drug therapies.The study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that several proteins can interact in blood vessels to intensify the respiratory and circulatory symptoms of a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis.

Dexmedetomidine as an Adjuvant in Regional Anesthesia

This study compared an addition of dexmedetomidine prolonged the duration of analgesia as well as to compare the two techniques. The primary objective was to assess whether addition of dexmedetomidine to bupivacaine prolonged the duration of analgesia. The secondary objective was to compare between scalp nerve block and scalp infiltration as techniques for pain relief. Scalp infiltration and scalp block are being used to manage postcraniotomy pain. Dexmedetomidine has been successfully used as an adjuvant in regional anesthesia.

This now enables its functional analysis. New Device identifies Fibroblast Subtypes at Low-Cost in RA Patients

Researchers at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) and New York University (NYU) have taken steps to facilitate broad access to single-cell sequencing by developing a 3D-printed, portable and low-cost microfluidic controller. To demonstrate the utility of the instrument in clinical environments, the researchers deployed the device to study synovial tissue from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).
