Biomedical Measurements On Each Astronauts In Spaceflight

A study conducted project to determine if humans could perform meaningful tasks while in space. This was supported by a series of biomedical measurements on each astronaut before, during (when feasible), and after flight to document the effects of exposure to the spaceflight environment. NASA selected seven active-duty military test pilots for temporary duty as astronauts.

A High Prevalence Of Hearing Loss In The Older Adults

The peripheral and central hearing alterations associated with age-related hearing loss have a profound impact on perception of verbal and non-verbal auditory stimuli. Age-related hearing loss (ARHL), presbycusis, is a chronic health condition that affects approximately one-third of the world's population.

The high prevalence of hearing loss in the older adults corresponds to the increased frequency of dementia in this population. Researchers have focused their attention on age-related central effects that occur independent of the peripheral hearing loss as well as central effects of peripheral hearing loss and its association with cognitive decline and dementia.

Role of Palliative Care in Liver Disease

A new study published in the journal The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology suggest that use of day-case large-volume paracentesis for patients with liver disease at the end of life is associated with lower costs, reduced pressure on acute hospital services, and a lower probability of dying in hospital compared with unplanned care, highlighting the importance of advance planning of care for both patients and health-care systems.

Efficacy Of Microneedling With 5-Flurouracil Effective Vitiligo Treatment

According to a study, the researcher examined the efficacy of microneedling with 5-fluorouracil versus its efficacy with tacrolimus in the treatment of vitiligo. Several treatment modalities had been used for the treatment of vitiligo, but the optimal treatment has not yet been identified. Microneedling in combination with 5-fluorouracil is a safe and effective treatment for vitiligo. The study was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology

Drug regulators in Europe and Japan have approved a recombinant, adjuvanted herpes zoster vaccine (Shingrix, GlaxoSmithKline) to prevent shingles (in Europe and Japan) and postherpetic neuralgia (in Europe only) in adults aged 50 years or older, the company has announced.

Inadequate Focus On Hepatitis B Virus: A Study

Worldwide 300 million people live with the hepatitis B virus, but only one in 20 received adequate treatment. For expectant mothers carrying the virus, the percentage dropped to one in 100, reported in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology journal.
