BIABooster: DNA in Blood Circulation Characterized

Developed and patented in 2012 and 2014 in the Laboratoire d'Analyse et d'Architecture des Systèmes (LAAS-CNRS) and implemented industrially by Picometrics-Technologies, BIABooster technology can characterize DNA with new precision and sensitivity.

When used to analyze residual DNA circulating in the blood, it has identified promising signatures for monitoring patients with cancer. These signatures, presented in the issue of Analytical Chemistry, could be confirmed by a larger study led by teams at the Université Paris Descartes, INSERM, AP-HM and AP-HP (Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou).

CUSFTA Increased Caloric Intake in Canada

A new study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows that the 1989 Canada-US Free Trade Agreement (CUSFTA) was associated with an increase in caloric availability of approximately 170 kilocalories per person per day in Canada.

These findings suggest that the rise in caloric intake and obesity in Canada since the early 1990s can be partially attributed to its close trade and investment arrangements with the US.
