National Consultation for NCD Implementation in India

The aim of this consultation was to address implementation challenges in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and prioritize actions for effective implementation.

After conducting 2 State level consultations with National Health Mission in 2017, Project HOPE and Eli Lilly and Company (India Pvt. Ltd.) successfully conducted the 3rd and final consultation at the national level. The aim of this consultation was to address implementation challenges in Non-Communicable Diseases(NCDs) and prioritize actions for effective implementation.

Incubation Period Is A Key In Spread Of Disease

The distribution of incubation times in most cases, they contend, is close to 'lognormal' meaning that the logarithms of the incubation periods, rather than the incubation periods themselves, are normally distributed. Working with a simple mathematical model in which chance plays a key role, researchers calculated how long it would take a bacterial infection or cancer cell to take over a network of healthy cells.

Determination Of Weight Are Related To Ocular Changes In Space

On Earth, tissue weight generates compressive forces that press on body structures and act on the walls of vessels throughout the body. In microgravity tissues no longer have any weight and tissue compressive forces are lost, suggesting individuals who weigh more may show greater effects from microgravity exposure. One unique effect of long-duration microgravity exposure is the spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS) which can present with globe flattening, choroidal folds, optic disc edema, and a hyperopic visual shift.

Mosquito Saliva Triggers Unexpected Immune Response, New Findings

Mosquitoes may increase the severity of the diseases they transmit, and researchers think that mosquito saliva plays an active role in this process. Researchers have taken a closer look at the effect of mosquito saliva alone and found that it can trigger an unexpected variety of immune responses in an animal model of the human immune system.

These results offer an opportunity to develop effective strategies to prevent mosquito-based transmission of disease. The study appears in the journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Study Shines A Light On Biology of Malaria Parasite

A team of researchers led by a University of California, Riverside, a scientist have found that various stages of the development of human malaria parasites, including stages involved in malaria transmission, are linked to epigenetic features and how chromatin — the complex of DNA and proteins within the nucleus — is organized and structured in these parasites

New Treatment For Psoriasis Patients Using Antibody

An antibody used to treat the skin disease psoriasis and other chronic autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease has no effect on aortic inflammation a key marker of future risk of major cardiovascular events unlike other antibodies that target different aspects of the immune system. Researchers led a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study and found patients taking the drug adalimumab marketed as Humira saw no change in aortic inflammation, as assessed by nuclear imaging, when compared to the placebo group.
