Intensive Care Patients Are Readmitted To Hospital After Discharge

The researcher suggests a quarter of intensive care patients are readmitted to the hospital shortly after returning home and some of these readmissions are avoidable. High levels of carer stress, difficulty understanding health and social care packages and psychological trauma all contribute to high rates of return, the findings show. Pinpointing the reasons for unplanned readmissions is key to developing care packages that support patients at home and could save vital funds. The study was published in the journals Thorax and BMJ Quality and Safety.

Guselkumab Is Best For Psoriasis on the Scalp, Palms, and Soles

According to a study, researchers examines that the interleukin 23 inhibitor guselkumab is associated with more improvement in psoriasis on the scalp, palms and/or soles compared with adalimumab. They conducted a secondary analysis of data from the international VOYAGE 1 and VOYAGE 2 studies, double-blind, placebo- and adalimumab-controlled trials that demonstrated the efficacy of guselkumab for moderate-to-severe psoriasis. The study was published in JAMA Dermatology,

Effectiveness of Minimally Invasive Emphysema Treatment

For patients with severe emphysema, every breath brings equal parts relief and burden. Oxygenated air comes in, but not all the air from the last breath is exhaled. Rather, it becomes trapped in the lungs, caught in large pockets formed by the rupture of the lung's tiny air sacs, known as alveoli.

Long-Term Excercise Program Improves Cognition, New Findings

We know that exercise may help improve thinking skills. But how much exercise? And for how long? To find the answers, researchers reviewed all of the studies where older adults were asked to exercise for at least four weeks and their tests of thinking and memory skills were compared to those of people who did not start a new exercise routine. The review is published in the online issue of Neurology® Clinical Practice, an official journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
