The haemophagocytic syndrome (HS) is a rare condition that presents with uncontrolled inflammation leading to multiorgan failure and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Current national estimates of children hospitalized due to HS are unknown. Characterizing and understanding the burden of HS-related hospitalizations at a national level is the initial step in optimizing the overall care.

Polypharmacy and inappropriate prescribing are associated with negative health outcomes in the elderly. Several prescribing tools have been developed to assess medication appropriateness. Explicit (criteria-based) tools often do not consider patients’ preferences and comorbidities and have little room for individualized clinical judgment.
Bariatric surgery results in substantial medical and economic benefits; however, independent studies typically report high patient preoperative attrition rates. Studies have identified individual characteristics and sociodemographic variables of those who complete the surgery compared to those who do not.
Achievement goal theory is consistently associated with specific cognitions, emotions, and behaviors that support learning in many domains, but has not been examined in postgraduate medical education.

Two months of mandibular-advancement therapy significantly reduced the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with severe OSA, but had no effect on inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers, a new study from France shows.
Sevoflurane preconditioning induces brain ischemic tolerance , but the mechanism remains poorly elucidated. A nitration is an important form of post-translational modification in pathological signaling. This study was to investigate the role of thioredoxin-1 (Trx-1) nitration in neuroprotection effect induced by sevoflurane preconditioning in a transient stroke model in rats.
