New Insights Of Brain Anatomy

The brain is an amazing three-pound organ that controls all functions of the body, interprets information from the outside world, and embodies the essence of the mind and soul. Intelligence, creativity, emotion, and memory are a few of the many things governed by the brain. Protected within the skull, the brain is composed of the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.

The brain receives information through our five senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing often many at one time. It assembles the messages in a way that has meaning for us and can store that information in our memory. The brain controls our thoughts, memory and speech, movement of the arms and legs, and the function of many organs within our body.

Aminoacid Mechanism Breakdown May Increase Risk For Diabetes

Researchers suggest that the irregular metabolism of branched-chain amino acids components of proteins found in many foods may be partially to blame for progression to type 2 diabetes. The biological mechanisms underlying this rise in type 2 diabetes risk are mysterious. The study was published in Clinical Chemistry.

In the U.S., about five out of 100 expectant mothers develop gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a temporary form of diabetes in which hormonal changes disrupt insulin function. Although GDM is often symptomless and subsides after delivery, women with a history of it face a seven-fold risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Augmented Reality Microscope Can Detect Cancer

A study determines that AI algorithms detect and highlight cancer cells in images of human tissue. An augmented reality microscope that could be used to help physicians diagnose patients. When pathologists are analyzing biological tissue to see if there are signs of cancer and if so, how much and what kind the process can be quite time-consuming.

But in many places, adopting AI technology isn't feasible. The company, however, believes this microscope could allow groups with limited funds, such as small labs and clinics, or developing countries to benefit from these tools in a simple, easy-to-use manner. Google says the scope could "possibly help accelerate and democratize the adoption of deep learning tools for pathologists around the world.

General Anesthesia Preserves Consciousness

Researchers have gained new information on brain activity during general anesthesia by recording changes in the electrical activity of the brain. They discovered that changes in electroencephalogram correlated with the loss of consciousness itself and also by the non-specific effects of the drugs. Nearly all participants recalled dreaming during unresponsiveness and, somewhat surprisingly, words presented during anesthesia were still processed in the brain even though the participants were unable to recall them later.

Healthcare Needs To Use Effective Critical Care Facilities

A study estimates that the Indian healthcare industry is taking baby steps to ensure accessibility and affordability of care to every citizen, critical care is still an evolving space. Critical care, also known as intensive care units (ICU) refers to a specialized department in a hospital that harbors specialist doctors, equipment, and infrastructure for patients who are suffering from or are prone to have life-threatening conditions.
