Chagas Disease Linked To Increased Risk of Heart Disease in Latin America

Chagas disease, caused by infection with a parasite called Trypanosoma cruzi (T cruzi), causes chronic heart disease in about one-third of those infected. Over the past 40 years, the Chagas disease has spread to areas where it had not traditionally been seen, including the United States, according to a new American Heart Association scientific statement published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.

Rod Rosenstein Defends Bad Forensic Science

U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein defended several questionable forms of forensic evidence Tuesday. "Most of you work on the front lines of the criminal justice system, where forensic science has been under attack in recent years," Rosenstein said in a speech at the National Symposium on Forensic Science. "Some critics would like to see forensic evidence excluded from state and federal courtrooms"
