Machine Learning Models Generate Clinical Radiology Reports

Researchers used machine learning techniques, including natural language processing algorithms, to identify clinical concepts in radiologist reports for CT scans, according to a study published in the journal Radiology. The technology is an important first step in the development of artificial intelligence that could interpret scans and diagnose conditions.

Neuroimaging: Pathological Basis of Early Cognitive Symptoms in Patients with Hypertension

Hypertension is the strongest modifiable risk factor for subcortical ischemic changes and is also a risk factor for Alzheimer’s dementia. Researchers used neuroimaging to investigate the pathological basis of early cognitive symptoms in patients with hypertension. To study the pathogenic basis of cognitive symptoms in the setting of hypertension, researchers recruited subjects with hypertension and Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) of 0.5 without dementia and used neuroimaging markers to infer the presence of AD pathology or vascular pathology

Men with Diabetes Have Less Chances to Develop Prostate Cancer

According to study, researchers examined that men with type 2 diabetes are less likely to develop prostate cancer than patients without diabetes. However, the mortality rate is higher. They showed that in the affected individuals the androgen receptor and the mitogenic forms of the insulin receptor were more strongly expressed. The study was published in the journals Molecular Metabolism and Endocrine Related Cancer.

SL-DART study: Resistance Training versus Aerobic Training

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is rising globally. T2DM is particularly problematic in South Asia with an estimated 10–15% of Sri Lankans diagnosed with the disease. Exercise is known to improve blood glucose, lipid profiles, blood pressure and adiposity, key goals in the management of T2DM. The recreational exercise culture is new to Sri Lankans and the effects of exercise on T2DM has not been studied in this population.
